As vice president general counsel and corporate secretary, Julie Peterson oversees corporate governance, human resources, and the provision of strategic, proactive and practical legal advice to MRO’s executive team and the board of directors. Peterson also acts as liaison to the board’s Governance and Personnel Committee (GPC). The GPC assists the board in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities in governance, board, and personnel matters.

Julie Peterson joined MRO in January 2021 as assistant corporate secretary and senior counsel, and was promoted to vice president general counsel and corporate secretary in December 2022. Prior to joining MRO, Peterson served as the director of legal operations for Alliances Management Consulting, an association management firm specializing in supporting technology standards organizations, where she served primarily as the Legal and Operations Secretariat for EMVCo. She previously served as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of Hawaii in the Employment Law Division, as a judicial law clerk for the Ninth Judicial District of the State of Minnesota, and as an associate attorney with the Nilles Law Firm in Fargo, ND.

Peterson earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctorate degrees from the University of North Dakota, and is licensed to practice law in Minnesota and Hawaii. She is a trained community mediator, a member of the Plymouth (MN) City Council, and a member of the Energy Bar Association.
