2023 SERC PHYSICAL SECURITY WORKSHOP

The Physical Security Workshop is an in-person event hosted by Madison Gas & Electric and MRO in Madison, WI. The workshop is split into two separate sessions. The “classroom” session runs from 8:30 a.m. October 10 through noon on October 12. In this session, participants will learn about physical security concepts and technologies, Design Basis Threat, threat and vulnerability assessments, CIP-006, CIP-014, and other topics. Attendance for this portion of the course will be limited to 50 participants. The “lab” session of the training focuses entirely on practical application of VISA, and will include a site visit. Attendance for this session will be limited to 30 participants. Attendance at the workshop is a prerequisite to attending the lab. For attendees who have the NERC Certified System Operators (NCSO) credential, NERC has approved the classroom portion of the workshop for 10 continuing education hours (CEHs) and the lab portion of the workshop for 5 CEHs. Attendees who do not have NCSO credentials can receive the same number of professional development hours for the training.

Registration through Eventbrite is required to attend the 2023 Physical Security Workshop at Madison Gas & Electric in Madison, WI. Registration opens Thursday, August 17, 2023, and closes on Friday, October 6, 2023, for in-person attendance only. There is no fee to attend.

Please ensure you arrive at Madison Gas & Electric in time to check in and make your way to the training room. Madison Gas & Electric requires a government issued photo ID to verify identify.

OBJECTIVES:

In this workshop you will:

  • Identify the layers/stages of protection in depth.
  • Describe the role of Design Basis Threat in identifying threats and risks for entities and external partners.
  • Identify the importance of physical security for registered entities, external partners and their assets.
  • Identify types of threats/vulnerabilities to physical security for registered entities.
  • Explain the reason for employing physical security controls.

In the VISA application sessions you will:

  • Experience practical application of adversary sequence diagrams, design basis threat (DBT), and the Vulnerability of Integrated Security Analysis (VISA) methodology. 


TARGET AUDIENCE:

This event will be of interest to entry level physical security personnel, managers of physical security programs, individuals with compliance and security responsibilities but with limited physical security expertise.
