Midwest Reliability Organization’s Director of Power System Risk Management Mark Tiemeier will participate in a panel discussion at the Organization of MISO States (OMS) annual meeting on October 24 in Madison, Wisconsin.
The panel will focus on Resource Adequacy Metrics in an Ever-Changing Environment and includes staff from SERC Reliability Corporation and NextEra Energy.
Tiemeier will share his perspectives on current metrics for Resource Adequacy and whether new metrics or targets are needed, as well as what could be done in the meantime to maintain Resource Adequacy.
The OMS is a collection of retail utility regulators from fifteen states and the province of Manitoba that have member utilities within the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). The purpose of the OMS is to represent the collective interests of state and local utility regulators and facilitate informed and efficient participation in related issues. The OMS annual meeting is an opportunity for OMS members and stakeholders to share information and exchange ideas on the issues facing the utility industry.
Uncertain Energy Availability was categorized as an EXTREME RISK in MRO’s 2024 Regional Risk Assessment. The continuing transformation of the generating resource fleet from a largely dispatchable source of energy to one more reliant on weather-dependent and intermittent sources requires a fresh look to evolve traditional resource adequacy models to a more energy focused approach. New approaches to acknowledge the impact of the duration and magnitude of energy shortfalls need to be considered.
