MRO operates under delegated authority from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) to perform specific functions that support reliability and security of the bulk power system in MRO’s regional footprint.
MRO monitors compliance with mandatory reliability standards applicable to users, owners, and operators of the bulk power system in MRO’s regional footprint.
Bulk power system users, owners, and operators within MRO’s region that meet certain criteria are required to register with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). These entities are subject to compliance with mandatory reliability standards.
In addition to conducting a variety of studies and assessments of the regional bulk power system’s ability to meet power demand, MRO reviews system disturbances to identify lessons learned and best practices that can be shared with industry to prevent recurrence.
MRO collaborates with NERC and others across the ERO Enterprise to coordinate electric industry activities that promote critical infrastructure protection of the bulk power system in North America.
